Two years ago I decided to join a semi pro football team. I began working out at Ironman Fitness in Exeter, NH. In a short time, I found myself slimmer, stronger, quicker, and feeling good mentally. After a fifteen year absence from the game, my training at Ironman Fitness prepared me to compete at a high level. More importantly, I felt better in both body and spirit.
As a teacher and coach, I have seen the same results in some of our toughest students. Matt is skilled as a trainer for sure, but what he has done for the minds and spirits of our most disenfranchised students is immeasurable… Ironman Fitness is great for bodies, but invaluable for minds and our community.

The first time I came to Matt Lawrence I showed up in his basement to a squat rack and a bench. I was 6 feet tall, 178 pounds. I was 18 years old at the time and I was realizing that my success in hockey based on natural abilities was quickly running dry. In a small original group of Ryan Clark, Kyle VanderMale, his two sons Matthew and Zachary and I, Matt developed Ironman Fitness. It was a down-to-earth, not afraid to sweat, gritty-type gyn. Matt’s knowledge of strength training and his background as a professional athlete demanded a respect for the importance of training outside of the ice rink, or any
sports venue. However, what amazed me most, and what took me to the next level in my career was Matt’s determination to compete and get better. As a group of three 18 to 20 year olds, we showed up at Ironman Fitness every day to a trainer that would not only coach us through our workout, but also did the workout with us, competing and improving every step of the way. This mentality was contagious. I have been training with Matt for 6 years now and have watched him expand from his basement, to a small gym in the upstairs of a goalie clinic, to a well-established training facility in Exeter, NH. That competitive element has been there every step of the way and that is what puts Matt Lawrence and
Ironman Fitness above the competition. As I have moved up through the different levels of hockey, Matt has designed programs for me that have adjusted to what those levels demand in a player. If I hadn’t run into Matt Lawrence, I never would have made it past high school hockey. My only regret with working out at Ironman Fitness is that I didn’t find Matt earlier in my career.

Matt Lawrence’s knowledge of strength and conditioning and his personal dedication to my performance enhancement have made it possible for me to play hockey at the collegiate level. Over the past 4 years, Matt has been fully committed to training me and helping me in any way possible. His helpfulness and positive influence have helped me outside of the weight room, as well. As a result, I am also pursuing a career in strength & conditioning. Matt has been a great mentor, always willing to teach and guide me. I owe so much to Matt not only because of the superior job he does training me and the rest of his clients, but as an ongoing support resource for me as I pursue my own career in the field. I
would not be where I am today if it weren’t for Ironman Fitness.
